What is your favourite movie that was considered a major flop?
Either in reviews or in the amount of money it made.
Mine is Hudson Hawk and Final Fantasy. Both got bad reviews and failed to make enough money.
Here’s my top five — the #1 is like your two with bad reviews and low box office. The rest got mostly good reviews but did horrible at the box office:
1. Showgirls: Budget: 45 mil; US box office: approx. 23 mil
Camp & Boobs
2. Ed Wood: Budget: 18 mil; US Box office: 6 mil
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: I met Bela Lugosi.
Dolores Fuller: Why, I thought he was dead.
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: No, he’s very much alive. Well, sort of.
3. Zodiac: Bud: 65 mil; US: 33 mil
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Here comes the roly poly man and he’s singing songs of love,
4. Mars Attacks: Bud: 70 mil; US: 37 mil
If you listen to Howard Stern you know the sound effect that makes this movie great.
5. Boondock Saints: Bud. 6 mil; US box: $30,471.

Idiocracy. Fox refused to promoted it at all due to it’s strong anti-corporate sentiments.
Shame too, because it’s hilarious. It’s got Luke Wilson and was written by Mike Judge (which is all you need to know right there.)

Doom (2005), adapted from a popular video game, i like it but also got bad reviews.

I’m not sure if this will make it but…
Edison Force is an amazing movie with Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Dylan McDermott, LL Cool J, and surprisingly good Justin Timberlake. The movie was released direct-to-DVD and never showed in theaters.
Awesome movie with great plot twists.

"Ghost World" never was in theaters but it was itunes "free movie of the week" or something. Out of all the reviews I saw about it I think I saw three positive ones. The rest saying it sucked and was a waste of time. It’s actually one of my all-time favorite movies that I watch over and over. I think it’s such an amazing movie! I don’t understand why people don’t like it!

I loved Speed Racer, being a comics book fan and all. I accepted the campiness and embraced the amazing camera shots and racing action. Because that was what it was about. Racing.
Critics were used to normal fare, and of course panned it. I was disappointed. (What did they expect? No Country For Old Men??!)
But the movie is making up in sales, mostly products and the like.
Way to go Wachowski brothers!!
